Ruby is a pink to blood-red coloured gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide). Ruby is one of the traditional cardinal gems, together with amethyst, sapphire, emerald, and Diamond. The colour of a ruby is due to the element chromium. The quality of a ruby is determined by its colour, cut, and clarity, which, along with carat weight, affect its value. After colour follows clarity: similar to Diamonds, a clear stone will command a premium, but a ruby without any needle-like rutile inclusions may indicate that the stone has been treated. The world's most valuable ruby is the Sunrise Ruby

Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2).  It should not be confused with Zircon, which is a zirconium silicate(ZrSiO4) and a natural gemstone. Because of its low cost, durability, and close visual likeness to Diamond, synthetic Cubic Zirconia has remained the most gemologically and economically important competitor for Diamonds since commercial production began in 1976.
