SILVER CUCKOO CLOCK PENDANT OR CHARM
Hickory, Dickory, Dock! This charming pendant features a sweet little cuckoo clock complete with a little bird announcing the time. The weight hanging below the clock also moves the bird, who pops out of the alcove to announce the hour. The detail on this piece is lovely, with carved ivy leaves around the clock itself. The brooch, including the bale is 2.5cm tall and 1.1cm wide. The whimsical piece is therefore small enough to wear as a charm as well as a pendant, and is heavy enough to wear on a chain, but not too heavy for a bracelet.
The cuckoo clock, more than any other kind of timepiece, has often featured in literature, music, cinema, television, etc., in the Western culture, as a metaphor or allegory of innocence, childhood, old age, past, fun, etc. Although the cuckoo clock functions as a symbol of Switzerland and Swissness, in fact, it only has a slim connection with that country in terms of production. Its real home is the Black Forest of Germany.
