I have a serious weakness for a Morganite dress ring, and this one is absolutely not helping me overcome it.

This beautiful 9ct Yellow Gold ring features a wonderfully substantial 9 x 7mm Morganite, surrounded by a sparkling halo of 26 small Diamonds. The combination of warm Yellow Gold, soft peachy-pink Morganite and all that little Diamond sparkle is frankly rather delicious.

It's feminine without being fussy, glamorous without being shouty and, most importantly, properly wearable. This is the sort of ring that can turn a fairly ordinary outfit into something that looks as though you've made considerably more effort than you actually have.

I call that excellent jewellery.

💎 A Big Morganite With A Sparkling Little Supporting Cast

The star here is undoubtedly that 9 x 7mm Morganite.

Morganite is loved for its beautiful peach, blush and orangey-pink tones, and it has a wonderfully romantic quality without being quite as predictable as traditional pink gemstones.

Surrounding it are 26 small Diamonds, creating a halo of sparkle around the central stone and making that lovely Morganite appear even larger and more dramatic on the finger.

It's a classic halo dress ring design, but the soft colour of the Morganite gives it a distinctly modern feel.

And because it was made in Hatton Garden, London, you're getting a piece with a rather lovely connection to one of the world's most famous jewellery districts.

🌸 A Little Morganite History

Morganite is actually a relatively recent celebrity in the gemstone world.

Although the gemstone itself had been around for millions of years, it wasn't recognised as a distinct gemstone until the early 20th century, when it was discovered alongside other gems, including Tourmaline and Aquamarine, in Pala, California.

It was later named Morganite in honour of the American banker and gem collector J. P. Morgan, who was a significant customer of renowned gemologist George Frederick Kunz.

Kunz was instrumental in identifying Morganite deposits in Madagascar, helping to establish the gemstone as something rather more exciting than just another pretty mineral hiding underground.

🍑 Morganite vs Kunzite

The two can sometimes be confused, particularly because both can occur in attractive pink shades.

The easiest distinction is generally the colour:

Kunzite tends towards a more bluish pink, while Morganite is usually warmer, with peachy, orangey-pink tones.

And when it comes to Morganite, colour depth is an important factor in determining its desirability and value.

Interestingly, clarity isn't necessarily everything with this gemstone. Some people actually prefer Morganite with tiny natural inclusions because they can give the stone an almost silky appearance.

Personally, I'd rather have a gemstone that doesn't feel like it's been through an emotional cleansing retreat before being allowed out.

A little character is good.
