ANTIQUE SILVER HAND ENGRAVED SHIELD FOB PENDANT
Christine Alexander Fine Jewellery
Hello, lovely people — and welcome to one of those pieces that makes you feel like you’ve accidentally wandered into a period drama and come out with the best prop.
This is a beautiful antique Silver watch fob medal, presented in 1911 to a certain G. Stout by the enigmatically titled “B. S. M. W. C. C.”
Now, what does that stand for? Cricket club? Chess club? A particularly exclusive Edwardian society of people who enjoyed very stern tea? I wish I could tell you. I have Googled. I have squinted. I have sighed dramatically. And yet — the mystery remains.
Frankly, that makes it better.
The Look: Properly Handsome (In a Very 1911 Way)
This fob features a classic shield design, framed by intricate cut-out silverwork that adds depth, texture, and unmistakable antique charm.
- Approx. 43mm long
- 28mm at its widest point
- Excellent condition, especially for something that has seen more of history than most of us
The front is blissfully free from inscriptions, making it visually clean and bold — while the back holds its little historical whisper from 1911.
It’s the sort of piece that looks equally fabulous:
- Hung from a chunky Silver chain
- Added to a charm bracelet
- Or clipped onto an Albert chain for full vintage swagger
What Even Is a Watch Fob (And Why Do You Suddenly Want One?)
Once upon a time, before we all checked the time on our phones like distracted magpies, people carried pocket watches — and these little beauties, known as fob medals, hung from the chain.
They weren’t just decorative. Oh no. They were:
- Symbols of achievement
- Badges of belonging
- Tiny status updates, Edwardian-style
Often engraved with names, dates, and cryptic initials (hello again, B.S.M.W.C.C.), they were meaningful to those in the know — and delightfully mysterious to the rest of us.
So essentially, this is a conversation starter you can wear.
Condition & Character
I only lightly clean my antique Silver pieces, allowing them to retain their natural patina — that soft, slightly darkened glow that whispers, “I’ve lived.”
No harsh polishing. No stripping away history. Just honest, beautiful ageing.
