9CT GOLD PEAR CUT RUBY & DIAMOND PENDANT
Christine Alexander Fine Jewellery
There are gemstones, and then there are Rubies.
Rubies don't politely sit in the corner waiting to be noticed. They sweep into the room draped in centuries of royal history, impossible beauty and enough confidence to make the rest of the gemstone world feel slightly inadequate.
This exquisite 9ct Yellow Gold teardrop pendant is proof.
At its heart sits a genuine 0.42ct pear-cut Ruby, suspended like a drop of liquid fire within a beautifully crafted Gold setting. Surrounding it are sparkling round-cut Diamond accents that add just the right amount of brilliance — enough to catch the eye without stealing the Ruby's spotlight. After all, when you've got a gemstone this magnificent, the supporting cast knows its place.
Delicate and elegant, the pendant measures approximately 8mm x 6mm (excluding the 5mm bail), making it the perfect everyday luxury. Small enough to wear constantly, yet striking enough to attract compliments from strangers and mild resentment from acquaintances.
The pendant is crafted from genuine 9ct Yellow Gold and carries the 375 hallmark, guaranteeing authentic Gold purity. Weighing approximately 0.7g, it is beautifully lightweight whilst retaining all the luxury and prestige that only real Gold can offer.
Why Rubies Have Been Turning Heads for Centuries
Rubies have been treasured since at least the 6th century AD, prized for their rich red tones that range from purplish-red to fiery orangey-red. Historically sourced from legendary regions such as Mogok in Burma, Rubies have long been associated with wealth, passion, power and protection.
In Sanskrit, Ruby earned the title ratnaraj — "King of Precious Stones." Not content with merely being royalty, it later became ratnanayaka, meaning "Leader of Precious Stones." Which feels wonderfully on-brand for a gemstone that has spent thousands of years making every other stone look as though it forgot to make an effort.
Rubies are also famous for a fascinating property known as pleochroism. This means they display slightly different colours depending on the angle from which they are viewed. Essentially, your gemstone is constantly finding its best side. Which, frankly, is more than can be said for most of us in photographs.
As the birthstone for July and the traditional gemstone for both the 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries, Rubies make an especially meaningful gift for milestone celebrations, romantic occasions or anyone who simply deserves something breathtaking.
Chains & Matching Options
I sell my chains and pendants separately because jewellery is deeply personal and everyone has their own preferences. Some people like a delicate chain, some prefer something chunkier, and some of us have spent three hours comparing chain styles online like we're preparing a doctoral thesis.
If you're unsure, I can happily recommend a chain to complement this pendant.
There is far more available than is currently listed on my website, so if you don't see exactly what you're looking for, please get in touch.
I also offer a discount on chains purchased with pendants.
This beautiful design is additionally available with:
- Emerald
- Sapphire
- White Gold with Aquamarine
- White Gold with Tanzanite
