This cut was introduced by the Asscher brothers in Amsterdam and was later trademarked by the Henry Meyer Diamond Company of New  York in 1962. Today, now that this trademark has elapsed, the term “Trilliant-Cut” is used to refer to all triangular shaped gems. I love the unusual shape, it can really enhance the colour of a gem and has lots of sparkles.

Topaz is found in several mining locations around the world, with the most important areas being Minas Gerais, Brazil, the Ural Mountains of Russia, Madagascar and Nigeria.

Blue was once amongst the rarest colour to be seen in Topaz. Today, through colour treatments being refined, there are three stunning Blue Topaz colours: Sky Blue, Swiss Blue and London Blue.

LONDON BLUE: Regardless of the design or setting London Blue Topaz flaunts vivid colours of intense dusty blue with inky undercurrents. Whether suspended from your ears arranged on your neck or wrapped around your finger this denim-toned Topaz constantly dazzles.

London Blue Topaz is by nature a romantic gem and often figures in love stories as well as for honeymoon escapades. This gem signifies beauty uniqueness affluence and reveals a sense of endurance.

SKY BLUE: This is the lightest variety of Blue Topaz (20 to 30% tone) and when they feature great clarity can often look similar to Aquamarine.

SWISS BLUE: This name is given to Blue Topaz which is lighter than London Blue Topaz but darker than Sky Blue Topaz.

Said to be “a girl’s best friend”, the name derives from the ancient Greek word ‘adamas’ meaning invincible. The quality of this gem’s colour, clarity and cut are more tightly measured than for any other gemstone, and although there are various standards used across the globe, that of the Gemological Institution of America (GIA) is the most widely used.  The value of similar carat weight of Diamonds can vary dramatically, based on their clarity and colour - and to some extents more importantly - how well the gemstone has been cut. Its very high refractive index is what gives the gem its famous sparkle; its strong lustre is described as an adamantine lustre.
