SILVER FLAT 1.3MM CURB CHAIN

Christine Alexander Fine Jewellery

Sale price £19.00 Regular price £33.00
SILVER FLAT 1.3MM CURB CHAIN

There are some pieces of jewellery that demand attention.

And then there are the pieces that quietly get on with being extremely useful, turning up whenever you need them and somehow working with practically everything in your jewellery box.

This fine flat curb chain in Sterling Silver is very much the latter.

At just 1.3mm wide, it is delicate, neat and beautifully understated, with that classic flat curb construction that catches the light as it moves.

It is available in 16", 18" and 20" lengths, so you can choose the length that works best for your neckline, your pendant collection and, frankly, your personal preference about where you like your jewellery to sit.

Because apparently we all have very specific feelings about necklace lengths.

🤍 Simple. Classic. Properly Useful.

I love a chain that doesn't try to upstage the pendant.

This one is fine enough to let your favourite pendant take centre stage, while still being attractive enough to wear on its own.

The flat curb links give it a subtle reflective quality, so although this is a delicate chain, it isn't completely disappearing into the background.

Wear it with a small pendant for an everyday look, layer it with other necklaces for a more contemporary style, or simply wear the chain alone when you want that lovely little flash of Silver around the neck.

It's minimalist jewellery without being boring.

And that is harder to achieve than it sounds.

✨ The Details

💎 Style: Delicate, classic, minimalist and versatile

As with all of my Silver jewellery, Sterling Silver means Sterling Silver, rather than something mysteriously described as "silver tone" and accompanied by a photograph taken from approximately seven miles away.

🩶 Why Sterling Silver?

Silver has been prized for thousands of years, and its history is frankly rather spectacular for something that spends much of its time sitting quietly around our necks.

When the Phoenicians arrived in what is now Spain, they reportedly obtained so much Silver that they couldn't fit it all aboard their ships — so Silver was used to weight their anchors instead of lead.

Which is quite possibly the most dramatic possible response to finding yourself with too much jewellery metal.

Silver subsequently became enormously important to the Roman economy, with the stability of Roman currency relying heavily on supplies of Silver bullion. Spain became one of the major sources, with Roman miners extracting Silver on a scale that was extraordinary for the ancient world.

Silver production later shifted towards Central Europe during the Middle Ages, after many of the deposits around the Mediterranean had been heavily exploited.

Meanwhile, sophisticated Silver extraction techniques were also being developed elsewhere in the world. In the Americas, high-temperature silver-lead cupellation technology had already been developed by pre-Inca civilisations as early as AD 60–120, while Silver continued to be mined in places including India, China, Japan and pre-Columbian America.

So when you're wearing a tiny Sterling Silver chain, you're technically participating in a rather impressive history of human obsession with shiny things.

As I always say: history nerds make excellent jewellery customers.

🔗 Which Length Should I Choose?

16 inches – A classic, closer-to-the-neck length. Lovely for smaller pendants and a neat minimalist look.

18 inches – The versatile middle ground and one of the most popular necklace lengths. Excellent for everyday wear and a wide range of pendants.

20 inches – A little longer and particularly useful if you prefer your necklace to sit lower on the neckline or want to layer it with shorter chains.

And, naturally, if you have a particular pendant in mind and aren't sure which length will work best, drop me a message.

I am considerably more helpful than a tape measure.

💎 Perfect For Pendants

This is an especially useful chain if you like changing your jewellery rather than buying an entirely new necklace every time you fancy a different look.

I sell my chains and pendants separately, because people have different tastes, different preferred lengths and different levels of enthusiasm about necklace layering.

If you're looking for a chain to go with one of my pendants and can't see quite what you want on the website, please ask.

I have far more available than I can list online, and I can help you find a suitable style and length.

I also offer a discount on chains purchased with a pendant.

💖 Why I Love It

This is the sort of jewellery I think everyone should have somewhere in their collection.

It's:

✨ Fine and delicate
✨ Classic rather than trend-led
✨ Easy to layer
✨ Ideal for pendants
✨ Suitable for everyday wear
✨ Available in three useful lengths
✨ Made from Sterling Silver
✨ Simple enough to work with almost anything

Basically, it's the little black dress of chains.

Except Silver.

And considerably less likely to make you question your life choices when you look at the price tag.
