And please wait until a new piercing is fully healed before introducing new jewellery. Fresh cartilage piercings can be particularly sensitive and are much less forgiving of ill-fitting jewellery than a standard lobe piercing. Even precious-metal jewellery is made from alloys, so if your piercing is still healing, patience really is your friend.

Although Gold is wonderfully durable, your jewellery will stay looking its best if you treat it with a little care. I recommend removing jewellery before swimming, bathing, exercising or sleeping where practical, and keeping it away from perfume, hairspray, creams, cosmetics, chlorine and household cleaning products.
