Oh, hello, fellow magpies. Pull up a chair because I've found yet another tiny piece of jewellery that proves size really isn't everything. These adorable Sterling Silver pear-shaped Cubic Zirconia stud earrings measure a dainty 3.5mm, but they sparkle with the sort of confidence usually reserved for people who pronounce "quinoa" correctly on the first attempt.

Crafted from 925 Sterling Silver, they're the sort of earrings you'll reach for every morning without even thinking about it. Small enough to wear all day comfortably, elegant enough for the office, pretty enough for dinner, and subtle enough to pair beautifully with multiple piercings if, like me, you've never quite mastered the art of stopping at one pair of earrings.

Now, I freely admit I have a lifelong love affair with Diamonds. They're spectacular. They're iconic. They're the jewellery equivalent of Audrey Hepburn in sunglasses. But can we have a little moment for Cubic Zirconia, please? Because frankly, it's been unfairly overlooked for decades. Modern Cubic Zirconia is beautifully cut, wonderfully brilliant, ethically laboratory created, and delivers astonishing sparkle for a fraction of the price. It gives you all the glamour without requiring you to sell a kidney or survive six months of eating nothing but supermarket own-brand noodles.

With a hardness of around 8.5 on the Mohs scale, Cubic Zirconia is durable enough for everyday wear, making it one of the finest Diamond alternatives available. It shouldn't be thought of as a poor substitute; it deserves to be appreciated for exactly what it is—a beautiful gemstone in its own right that just happens to look absolutely fabulous while being rather kinder to your bank balance.

As with all gemstones, however, even the prettiest little sparkler appreciates a bit of care. Jewellery is surprisingly resilient until the precise moment it isn't, rather like toddlers or supermarket carrier bags. It's always worth checking your earrings occasionally for loose stones or worn settings, particularly if they're favourite everyday pieces.

When you're tackling the glamorous jobs in life—cleaning the bathroom, gardening, moving furniture, wrestling flat-pack wardrobes into submission, or enthusiastically attacking the house with bleach—do your earrings a favour and pop them somewhere safe first. Household chemicals, particularly chlorine-based cleaners, are about as friendly to jewellery as pigeons are to freshly washed cars.

When bedtime arrives, or you're simply rotating your jewellery collection, store your earrings individually in a soft pouch or compartmentalised jewellery box. Harder gemstones can scratch softer materials surprisingly easily, and direct sunlight over many years isn't particularly beneficial either. A little care now means they'll continue sparkling beautifully for years to come.

Every pair arrives nestled inside one of my fully recycled Christine Alexander jewellery boxes, making them ready to gift straight away—whether that's to someone you adore or simply to yourself. Personally, I think buying your own jewellery should be positively encouraged. After all, you already know exactly what you wanted.
