SILVER OPENWORK ANGEL WING PENDANT

A nicely crafted openwork angel wing pendant in Sterling Silver. The pendant is 40mm long including bale, and 15mm wide.

Because bird and wing symbolism is closely linked, winged creatures in the arts can be rapacious and frightening (especially those with scaly or bat wings) or alternatively angelic. The artistic convention of giving angels wings appeared in about the 6th century CE, based on classical images of messenger gods and other winged deities. Winged discs are solar emblems.
