Rhodium is a precious metal from the Platinum family and is highly resistant to scratching. It is often used as a plating over Silver because it can provide a bright white finish while helping to protect the underlying metal from tarnishing.

However, Rhodium plating is a surface finish rather than something that lasts indefinitely. With regular wear, the plating can eventually wear through, particularly on areas subject to friction.
