Gold has been fascinating humans for a frankly unreasonable length of time.

Gold artefacts appear as far back as the very beginning of the Predynastic period in Egypt, around the end of the fifth millennium BC and beginning of the fourth millennium BC.

According to C.H.V. Sutherland's Gold, the development of smelting followed during the course of the fourth millennium BC.

And Gold jewellery has basically been having a very long-running starring role ever since.

As of 1990, Gold artefacts discovered at the Nahal Qana cave cemetery in the Levant, dating to the fourth millennium BC, were regarded as the earliest known Gold artefacts from that region.
