It's made from 9ct Yellow Gold, with a fine belcher chain decorated with little oval turquoise blue and white Evil Eye charms.

The Evil Eye, also known as the Nazar, is one of the oldest and most recognisable protective symbols in jewellery.

The traditional eye motif is associated with protection from the evil eye — the belief that a malicious or envious gaze could bring misfortune to another person.

The belief in the Evil Eye was present during the Roman period, with historical accounts describing not only individuals as potential transmitters of the Evil Eye, but even particular groups and tribes being regarded in this way.

Basically, humans have been suspicious of other people's jealous looks for a very long time.

The modern turquoise-and-white eye motif has become particularly associated with Nazar jewellery, and today it is commonly worn as a symbol of protection, good fortune and positive energy.

It can be applied to jewellery using techniques involving engraved lines, recessed cells or raised borders before being heated until it forms that smooth, glossy surface we recognise as enamel.
